Me Back Then Vs Now: Mr Bean
Ramo Akh has taken his "Back Then Vs Now" idea to Rowan Atkinson's best-known creation, and it found an audience fast. "Me Back Then Vs Now: Mr Bean" passed 1.4 million views in its first 23 hours, about eleven times what a new upload on the channel usually draws on its first day.
The format is already a habit here. "High Schoolers Back Then Vs Now" went up the day before and is past 350,000 views. Mr Bean hit a different nerve. The most-liked comments keep coming back to one discovery: the live-action show so many people grew up with was far shorter than it felt. Plenty of viewers say they assumed there were more than a hundred episodes. Others explain that the cartoon is the one with the long list, and a few admit they only ever knew the cartoon or the film. Several remember watching the same handful of episodes over and over, until each one felt new again.
The surprise is fair. The original series, which Atkinson created with Richard Curtis, ran to just fourteen episodes on ITV between 1990 and 1995, with one more released on video. The animated series that began in 2002 has many more.
On a channel that already gathers millions of views a day, one short does not change the overall pace much, and today it sits close to normal. Ramo's next upload went back to family: "My Little Brother's Boxing Drill FAIL," already past 120,000 views.
