Flip-flops, thongs and 'rubbers': Phoebe's word swap passes 2.7 million
Fourteen uploads in seven days added about 33,000 subscribers, and the makeup-names Short is the one moving fastest now.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
US WORDS 🇺🇸 VS UK WORDS 🇬🇧 which country is correct? #fyp #english #language #usvsuk #usa
Fourteen uploads in seven days is a lot even for phoebeisginger, and the British creator's week ran on a simple formula: two sides, one punchline. The busiest of them was "US WORDS 🇺🇸 VS UK WORDS 🇬🇧 which country is correct?", posted last Friday, and it has passed 2.7 million views.
Its comment section has turned into a vocabulary lesson of its own. The most liked reply comes from a viewer who realized they use British words with an American accent. Then the Australians arrive to point out that calling flip-flops thongs is their habit, not Britain's, and plenty of Americans agree. The rubbers mix-up gets the most laughs, and regulars quote Phoebe's drawn-out "oh hell naw" like a catchphrase. A second word-swap video posted the next day did more modestly, which suggests the first one simply caught the moment.
"HOW BOYS TREAT GIRLS BASED ON THEIR AGE" ran almost level with it, and a follow-up about how society treats girls by age went up two days later. Phoebe even took the formula into October with girls' and boys' Halloween costumes. The video with the most momentum, though, is the youngest: "MAKEUP PRODUCT NAMES THEN VS NOW" passed a million views inside a day and a half, and it is still collecting views several times faster than anything else on the channel.
The subscriber count rose by about 33,000 over the week, and the channel's daily views ran a little above their usual high level. Among the comedy-sketch channels nearest its size, only Cheap Noodle drew more views over the week. Kai Lentit was also running well ahead of his usual pace, while Grayskitz and Theodore Nivison were a little quieter than normal.
