Canadians Roast Katie Zacharia
Can a press secretary finish before she has really started? In the Canadian sketch shared by NowThis Impact, the performer playing Katie Zacharia introduces herself at the White House podium and immediately tries to leave. An aide has to send her back with a binder.
The Short, titled "Canadians Roast Katie Zacharia", drew roughly 708,000 views in eleven hours, already far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for Shorts. Its comment count had also passed three times the usual first-day level.
This is a staged parody from CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes, not footage of an actual White House briefing. The sketch turns the simplest parts of the job into obstacles: staying at the lectern, greeting the room and remembering whether the introduction has already happened.
On her return to the microphone, the character combines "hi" and "hello" into "Hillo," then stops to explain the mistake. Another restart brings a nervous aside about whether anyone noticed her repeating herself. A reporter supplies the practical problem with trying to mutter privately at a press briefing: "Yeah, you're miked."
