Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, married again, in Jamie Lee Curtis' Newlyweds trailer

The later-in-life comedy, co-created by Curtis and written by Gail Lerner, premieres October 23, and its trailer passed three-quarters of a million views in under two days.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

NBC spent most of its week on Line of Fire, the Peter Krause and Hope Davis drama about a family of federal agents, and then dropped one comedy trailer that changed the shape of everything. "Newlyweds | Official Trailer | NBC" went up on October 1 and had close to 800,000 views about a day and a half later.

The pitch is in the description: just met, just married, just winging it. Téa Leoni plays a free-spirited woman and Tim Daly a buttoned-up professor who marry after a whirlwind courtship, and he soon learns that loving her means taking on her sprawling, eccentric family and friends. Jamie Lee Curtis co-created the show and turns up as a guest star; Gail Lerner, a longtime writer and director on Black-ish, wrote it.

The comments keep coming back to one detail: Leoni and Daly are a couple off screen, and they also played husband and wife on Madam Secretary, so this is their third marriage of sorts. Plenty of viewers also say they have been waiting for an old-fashioned sitcom, one compares it to the 1990s, and a few wonder whether laugh-track comedies still have a place.

The Line of Fire clips (a sister asking her brother at the Justice Department for a favor, a father-son argument cut short to save the President) drew small, steady crowds, and a Traitors: New Blood clip with Alan Cumming's cloaked third Traitor ticked along too.

The trailer lifted the whole channel to several times its usual daily views. Among the TV network channels around its size, only Channel 4.0 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine gained more views this week, while FOX ran quieter than usual.
