Matt Wolfe looks under the body of Alef's flying car
Hidden propellers lift the vehicle over parked cars, but viewers have questions about its wheels, wind and everyday usefulness.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 47,238 views a day, 9.3 times a normal first day on this channel (5,096).
ANOTHER Flying Car? (Not Tesla / Not AI)
"And this is real video, by the way, this is not AI," Matt Wolfe says as an Alef vehicle rises vertically and travels over parked cars. For a creator whose usual subjects include generated video and AI tools, that distinction matters.
His flying-car Short drew about 23,000 views in its opening hours, already several times his usual full-day Shorts audience. The comments also passed his normal first-day total many times over.
Wolfe explains that the propellers sit inside the vehicle's body, presenting Alef's design as something that could drive on the road and lift off when needed. He says the company describes the demonstration as its thousandth test flight, and includes earlier test footage. The price he reports is around $300,000, with initial deliveries expected by the end of 2026.
That makes this a follow-up of sorts to the airborne Tesla Roadster demonstration we covered earlier. Here, though, the spectacle is a vertical takeoff rather than a ramp-assisted maneuver.
Viewers are picking apart the distinction between a flying car and a drone with a car-shaped body. Others wonder about wind, aviation licensing and whether taking off and landing would save much time in traffic. Those are questions raised by the demonstration, not answers it supplies.
Wolfe leaves one especially practical detail unresolved: he says it isn't clear whether anyone was inside during the flight.
