Brewers fan's armchair celebration captures the end of a long wait

MLB's home-video Short passes a million views as Milwaukee celebrates its first World Series championship.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 848,523 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (76,159).

He waited so long for this very moment to see his Brewers win the World Series! He waited so long for this very moment to see his Brewers win the World Series!

The wait is over. A Brewers fan sits listening to the television broadcast, then the final strikeout sends his fists into the air. Behind the camera, a woman gasps. He cheers, laughs and sinks back into his armchair, still trying to take in what Milwaukee has done.

MLB's Short, credited to Instagram account katecreatesbykaterice, gives the championship a different setting from the field celebrations: one fan at home, with no speech prepared and barely a pause between outbursts. Even after settling back into his chair, he raises his arms again.

The clip has passed a million views, drawing attention well beyond the channel's usual opening audience for a Short. Its comment section was more than a hundred times busier than usual on the first day.

Viewers are bringing their own family memories to it. One Brewers supporter describes his dad crying at the victory; another remembers a grandmother's reaction when the Cubs won the World Series. Giants supporters and other baseball fans also recognize the experience of finally seeing their team win.

MLB has been sharing the public celebrations too, with fast-starting parade highlights and a Short of the Brewers taking the trophy to Lambeau Field. But its home-video collection also includes a father and son who have watched Milwaukee together for decades, experiencing the team's first championship side by side.
