What was a new intern told about meeting the star of the show? In the interview excerpt Megyn Kelly shares, Johnny Hillebrent Partridge recalls other assistants immediately instructing him not to approach Ellen DeGeneres.
The former production assistant tells William Salvi that he started ahead of the daytime show's tenth season. He remembers great coworkers, but describes DeGeneres herself as distant, saying she would look through people in the hallways. Her arrival at the office, preceded by a bodyguard, reminded him of The Devil Wears Prada.
Kelly features the exchange from The CEO Series after offering her own account: a close acquaintance had a relative who worked for DeGeneres and was told not to make eye contact with her. That is separate from Partridge's firsthand recollection of the instructions he received.
The Short drew roughly a quarter-million views in its first day, more than five times Kelly's usual Shorts audience. The comments were also several times busier than usual.
Before introducing Partridge's interview, Kelly makes a distinction between a demanding boss and a disrespectful one. She says treating employees well has helped her keep people working with her for more than two decades.
