Harry Redknapp gets mobbed in McKallaster's archive-football comedy

The West Ham-Derby parody starts with pitch invaders embracing Redknapp, before Archie Gemmill tests the commentator's composure.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 133,404 views a day, 25 times a normal first day on this channel (5,392).

The commentator has stern words for spectators running onto the field. Then Archie Gemmill comes into view, and McKallaster's commitment to keeping everyone off the pitch begins to wobble.

That switch is the joke at the heart of his fast-starting Short, built around footage of West Ham United playing Derby County in 1972. It has drawn about 123,000 views in twenty hours, far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience for Shorts.

This is a comedy voiceover over archival match footage, not the original commentary. Two spectators run up to Harry Redknapp and embrace him before heading back toward the stands. A police officer follows into the crowd, giving McKallaster's supposedly "unbiased" Scottish commentator an opportunity to dispense some mock moral guidance.

Once play resumes, Gemmill's arrival gives that disapproving voice a rather different priority. The man narrating the disruption suddenly sounds tempted to contribute to it.

The busy comment section has its own split focus: some viewers pick up the calls for Archie, while others inspect the state of the playing surface. One remembers playing on similarly muddy pitches; another jokingly treats McKallaster's parody as a serious historical documentary.
