- 0:24Farage argues that excessive gambling taxes drive customers toward the black market.
- 3:48He says Liz Truss's economic plan failed because it lacked public spending cuts.
- 6:55Farage defends his crypto tax proposal and calls for FCA regulation to protect consumers from scams.
- 10:35The title's explanation arrives: Farage says he avoided the Commons because he feared another physical altercation.
A parliamentary prayer card is central to Nigel Farage's explanation for his absence from John Healey's Budget. The Reform UK leader says his card, used by MPs to reserve a Commons seat, had been removed, and he decided to stay away rather than risk another physical confrontation.
Speaking at a post-Budget press conference, Farage says he had been involved in a physical altercation with another MP at the State Opening of Parliament. He says he did not complain about that incident, but believed the missing card pointed toward another confrontation. His account describes choosing not to attend, rather than being expelled during the Budget speech.
Manchester Evening News's upload drew roughly 94,000 views in 18 hours, many times the channel's usual first-day audience for a regular video.
Despite the upload's headline, the explanation does not arrive until after ten minutes of questions. Much of the clip concerns Farage's economic arguments: he says excessive gambling taxes push customers toward the black market, and argues that Liz Truss's mini-budget failed because it did not include spending cuts.
Challenged about his proposed lower capital gains tax on crypto assets, Farage also calls for Financial Conduct Authority regulation to protect consumers from scams. The question of his empty Commons seat returns only toward the end, when he explains why he gave the chamber a wide berth.
