Lionsgate handed its Sunrise on the Reaping campaign to a fan editor, and the never-seen scene between Drusilla and Maysilee is what the comments keep circling back to.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026) Official Fan Edit Trailer - Joseph Zada

Fan editors have been cutting their own Hunger Games trailers for more than a decade. For Sunrise on the Reaping, Lionsgate asked one of them to make the real thing. The studio bills the result, made with the editor known as Areq, as the franchise's first official fan edit trailer, and calls it a recognition of fan editing as an art form in its own right.

The trailer also carries something new. It debuts a clip of Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle and Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner. It opens on a speeding train, where a Capitol escort in yellow talks down to the tributes and a blonde girl answers back. From there it builds through the arena, a meadow of flowers and mountains, toward the line "Welcome to the 50th Hunger Games" and a rush of chariot crashes, mutant birds and explosions.

In its first 15 hours it passed 75,000 views, several times what one of the channel's Shorts usually draws in a full day. A second version posted the same day added a smaller crowd. The comments are already about eight times busier than a usual first day, and they mostly talk about one beat: Maysilee slapping Drusilla back. Others want to know who made the edit, and one reader is delighted that Maysilee has the accent they imagined from the book.

The film, directed by Francis Lawrence and based on Suzanne Collins' novel, follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, into the Second Quarter Quell. Lionsgate lists it for theaters and IMAX on November 20.
