Karen X. Cheng turns typewritten cloth into a jacket

#GooglePartner I’ve wanted to make this for *years* and finally picked it back up!
Putting cloth through a typewriter gave Karen X. Cheng an idea she couldn't quite finish: a jacket covered in typed text. The missing piece wasn't another gadget. It was someone who could sew it.
Her video about finally making it has picked up roughly 140,000 views in a day, a sharp jump for an upload that had been moving slowly since September. It is a paid Google partnership, mixing a creative-project vlog with a scripted narrator who nudges Karen to finish what she started.
Karen says she originally abandoned the jacket because she didn't have the sewing skills to pull it off. Artist Johny Cariño Marquez supplies that part. The sketch shows her using Gemini in Chrome to draft a collaboration email and research how to stop the typewriter ink from bleeding on canvas. The browser sequences are labeled as illustrative, with simulated screens and shortened steps.
The useful detail is pleasingly physical: heat-setting the ink with an iron. Then the work splits between two makers, Karen typing onto cloth while Johny sews the pieces into a patchwork jacket. For all the browser assistance in the setup, the finished garment still takes typing, fabric and sewing.
