Roy Keane's medals-in-the-bin reaction races past half a million
Most football channels were running well below their usual pace, and ITV Sport's clip of the former Manchester United captain went sharply the other way.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,183,150 views a day, 37 times a normal first day on this channel (32,069).
"Stick medals in the BIN" - Roy Keane Reacts To Damning Man City Verdict
Across the football channels, it was a slow stretch. West Ham United, Sky Sports Retro and UnitedPeoplesTV were all drawing roughly half their usual daily views. ITV Sport's newest Roy Keane clip ran against that, passing half a million views within seven hours of going up.
That is a very different start from the channel's usual one. A new ITV Sport upload normally gathers a small share of that over its whole first day, and this one is on course for about thirty-seven times the usual first-day figure. The comments are piling up almost as eagerly as the likes.
The video is Keane's reaction to what the title calls a damning verdict against Manchester City. The headline carries his suggestion for what should happen to the medals. Keane spent more than a decade in midfield for Manchester United and captained the club through much of its most successful era. His plain-spoken judgments have made him one of the best-known voices on ITV's football coverage.
