The money comes out first. A minute and a half into the stream, IShowSpeed holds up an open briefcase stacked with cash and tells New York, "This is genuinely not a drill, bro." Then come the rules: he is hiding somewhere in the city, and whoever finds him takes the case.
There is a stop along the way. People in Dr. Squatch costumes, the bearded mascot of the soap brand, wait in each of the five boroughs, and contestants need a photo with one of them before they can go after Speed. His clues read like a tour guide's notes: the arch at Grand Army Plaza in Prospect Park, the carousel in Forest Park, a big split rock near the end of the 6 train, three lakes in a row and a stone bridge on Staten Island, and a zoo and a castle in Manhattan.
Brooklyn upends the pacing almost at once. Someone reaches the mascot within minutes, and Speed, already fighting tablet audio trouble, can only shout, "Wait, oh my god, somebody already found him!" Soon he is insisting, "It's not scripted," and pointing back to the hints he gave at the start. When two contestants arrive at the same mascot together, he settles it the most Speed way possible: they race on foot, and the winner gets the next clue.
A grid of video calls shows the mascots waiting across the city, while a whiteboard begins to reveal his hiding spot's coordinate one character at a time. The title promises one more destination as well, "Going To My Movie Premiere!", so the hunt is only the first part of his night.
The stream drew about three million views in its first hours. Several viewers say it felt like his US tour, when he streamed his way across the country, and many want to know why the electronic pop duo Frost Children suddenly turned up beside him. One contestant gives the plainest reason for running across the city: "I'm a nursing student, I could really use this money, man."
