An invitation to leave app reviews becomes the starting point for a much larger question: what responsibility does a host bear when viewers act on something said on a podcast?
HasanAbi takes up that question while watching and repeatedly pausing Ryan Beard's essay "The Cult Lies of Ethan Klein." Beard argues that H3 has encouraged audience targeting while treating criticism of its own community differently. His examples include Ethan Klein asking viewers to review Triller and podcast clips in which the crew tries to identify someone online before acknowledging that they have almost identified the wrong person.
The distinction Beard keeps returning to is between discussing criticism and directing a large audience toward an identifiable individual. Later, he examines Klein's threats to subpoena moderators of an H3 criticism subreddit, arguing that this sits uneasily beside the show's objections to hostile online scrutiny. The "cult" language is Beard's characterization of the fan community, not an established description.
The reaction has reached nearly a million views, though its audience is ordinary for HasanAbi's long uploads. Its substance is the extended argument, rather than an unusual surge.
HasanAbi also pauses the retrospective to defend former crew member Sam and recall why he joined Leftovers, the podcast he made with Klein. His explanation is brief and personal: "Dan was the reason why I did Leftovers."
