  1. 2:38Topol argues for moving medicine from treating illness after it appears toward prevention, while reclaiming doctors' time.
  2. 5:46Empathy starts with attentive listening and giving patients room to explain their concerns, Topol says.

  4. 10:42Topol explains how he uses an AI notebook to synthesize dense scientific research.

Listening, rather than computing, supplies the most human moment in Google's latest Dialogues interview. Asked about empathy in medicine, cardiologist Dr. Eric Topol tells Josh Woodward: "Just listening is the first step. Just listening intently and giving a person a chance to express their concerns."

That gives a practical purpose to their discussion of AI: less time consumed by documentation, more time available for patients. This is Google's own technology-and-society series, and its products feature in the conversation, including Topol's account of using an AI notebook to work through dense scientific literature.

"Why the future of healthcare is prevention | Dr. Eric Topol & Josh Woodward" was the most-watched of Google's five new uploads, reaching roughly 32,000 views. The author of Deep Medicine and Super Agers also draws a distinction between living longer and staying healthier longer, putting prevention at the center of the conversation.

Elsewhere, Google's promotional lineup moved from handwritten notes turned into study guides to an otter-themed search teaser and basketball. "Giannis x Google Search: Miami Pickup Hoops," featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo, currently has the strongest daily viewing momentum, followed by the animal teaser and the notes demonstration.

Google's subscriber count held at 14.6 million. Its total view count fell over the week, while nearby technology channels Duolingo and Google Chrome recorded substantial weekly gains. For Google's new uploads, though, the clearest contrast is between the basketball promotion drawing the most daily views and the longer medical conversation attracting the largest audience so far.

What viewers say

  • The other half of the problem is the physicians need to realize that their patients are going to come in asking more intelligent and in-depth questions regarding courses of treatment. The old attitude of "take this and call me in the morning" isn't going to work anymore. Patients are also going to use Gemini, so physicians should be open to better and deeper questions from their patients
