Hikaru Nakamura's face becomes the chess evaluation bar

A silent tournament-side reaction clip draws an unusually large audience, with viewers treating his eyebrows as chess analysis.

Hikaru isn’t human!! 2.03 seconds AGAIN???

Two players are racing through moves, but GMHikaru's Short gives the spectator almost as much screen space as the game. Standing behind the board, Hikaru Nakamura watches intently before his serious expression gives way to raised eyebrows, a smile and finally a wide-eyed grin. Then he walks away.

The on-screen instruction supplies the joke: "You don't need Stockfish. Just watch Hikaru's face." An enlarged view of Nakamura beneath the tournament footage makes every change of expression easy to follow. There is music, but no spoken explanation of the moves.

The clip drew an estimated 355,000 views in its first day, more than seven times the usual start for GMHikaru's Shorts. Comments arrived about four times faster than usual, too. Viewers keep returning to the same comparison: Nakamura as a human evaluation bar, the graphic that shows which side a chess engine favors. Others joke that even he couldn't stay to watch the game unfold.

There is more conventional chess analysis drawing attention alongside it. "Another El Classico Magnus vs Hikaru," featuring a meeting with Magnus Carlsen, is also making a faster-than-usual start among the channel's regular videos. In the Short, though, Nakamura doesn't need to say a word.
