Katie Byrne finds an apartment roof in a Milton parking lot
FOX Weather's correspondent reports from the Panhandle town where Isaias brought its strongest winds, as cleanup begins and the rivers are still rising.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 392,701 views a day, 56 times a normal first day on this channel (7,046).
Aftermath of Hurricane Isaias leaves piles of damage and debris in Florida
"Aftermath of Hurricane Isaias leaves piles of damage and debris in Florida" is a Short of under three minutes on FOX Weather, and its most striking image is a roof that is no longer on its building. It sits in a parking lot in Milton, the small Santa Rosa County town just northeast of Pensacola.
"This is actually where we saw the strongest winds from Isaias here," correspondent Katie Byrne says, describing a gust "strong enough to rip a roof right off of an apartment building." Aerial footage shows the units left open to the sky, where residents had sheltered through the storm.
Steve Desruisseaux, who owns a destroyed building in town, puts it plainly: he has lived through several hurricanes there, and "nothing come even close" to this one. Banners on screen count the cost: four confirmed dead in Florida and Alabama, hundreds of thousands without power and up to a foot of rain on parts of the Panhandle. Byrne calls power restoration the top priority, and she warns that the flood threat is not over, with rivers not expected to crest for another day or two.
The report drew about 240,000 views in its first ten hours. A regular FOX Weather Short ends its whole first day with a few thousand. Much of the comment section turns to the line crews seen climbing back to work as soon as conditions allowed.
It led a heavy day for the channel. Drone footage of Pensacola Beach and flooded roads in Rutherford County, North Carolina, where Isaias's remnants are still dropping rain, also started fast, as did reports on a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Panama. And forecasters are already looking ahead: another fast-starting Short watches the western Caribbean, where computer models hint that a new storm could take shape within ten days.

The numbers
One Short from Milton ran far ahead of the channel's usual start, on a day when several of its storm and earthquake reports did the same.
