Can a rocket leaving from Texas be the biggest story of the day for an Orlando TV station? For FOX 35 it was. "SpaceX to launch Starship Rocket in 1st orbital flight test" started at roughly thirty times the pace a new video on the channel usually manages.

That is a big break from the routine. FOX 35's about page promises Florida news, weather, hurricane coverage, bodycam and dashcam clips, and "can't miss alligator videos." A new upload typically settles into a modest first day. This one did not, even though the launch it describes was taking place about a thousand miles away.

The video is a short news preview. According to its description, SpaceX planned that morning to send Starship, its enormous reusable rocket, into orbit for the first time from Starbase, the company's site in South Texas. Earlier Starship test flights launched from the same place and did not reach orbit.

Orlando sits about an hour from Cape Canaveral, so rocket news is closer to local news there than almost anywhere else. Perhaps that is why a Texas launch felt like home territory to this station's viewers.
