Beck: In The Night | The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Sacha Baron Cohen had more than an interview to contribute to Jimmy Fallon's guest lineup. After discussing why he brought back Ali G, he also appeared on cello for "Beck: In The Night | The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." It's a neat change of assignment for a guest best known for making other people spectacularly uncomfortable.
Cohen's interview also reaches back to working with Spike Lee and Kobe Bryant on a commercial. Beck, meanwhile, has his own unlikely screen story: his conversation with Fallon covers turning down a role in Zoolander, alongside writing his first song on a calculator and the inspiration behind his Ride Lonesome album. KJ Apa rounds out the interview slate with his portrayal of Jimmy Stewart in Jimmy and a lunch with musical doppelgänger Mr. Fantasy.
Those appearances sit within a batch of 15 uploads, but the week's most-watched new video is Fallon's monologue, approaching half a million views. Its subjects range from Trump's polling and cognitive-test remarks to the NBA season and Apple's product announcement. A Katie Zacharia impersonation supplies a staged legal-vocabulary quiz, while Karl-Anthony Towns answers questions about music, candy and game-day superstitions.
That monologue, Cohen's interview and Beck's performance are also the channel's busiest videos right now. Daily viewing is more than triple its usual level, although the subscriber count was unchanged over the week.
Among nearby late-night channels, Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show had larger weekly viewing totals; The Tonight Show collected roughly 27 million views. For Fallon's viewers, the distinctive extra in this week's lineup is Cohen taking a seat beside Beck, instrument in hand.
