Pumpkins and hidden soil pests fill Epic Gardening's garden rounds
Jacques tackles root-knot nematodes alongside new uploads about saving peppers and convincing garlic it is winter.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
I buried a chicken and grew a pumpkin...
The flock gets the harvest. Epic Gardening's biggest new upload ends with the surviving chickens pecking at a pumpkin grown above the grave of Gucci, one of the host's original hens.
Since we reported here on that growing project, "I buried a chicken and grew a pumpkin..." has reached roughly 1.6 million views. It is comfortably the most watched of the week's four uploads and remains the channel's most active video right now. The practical work gives the remembrance its shape: sand on plywood supports the growing pumpkin, a shade-cloth cabana protects it, and powdery mildew eventually stops its expansion. The harvest becomes food for the flock.
Elsewhere, the week returned to keeping living plants productive. "I'm using this trick to save my peppers..." and "I tricked garlic into thinking it's winter..." were followed by "Get Rid Of Root-Knot Nematodes For Good". In that longer guide, Jacques from @jacquesinthegarden addresses pests beneath the soil, with help on spotting them and protecting beds without starting over. It has the strongest daily viewing of the new releases after the pumpkin Short.
The channel added subscribers over the week, while daily views are running above their usual level. Nearby gardening channel Shafikul Garden is also seeing above-usual daily viewing; Woodsbound Outdoors had a particularly substantial week across its catalog.
For something less urgent than pests or endangered peppers, the previous week's "5 Perennials That Pay You Back In ONE Season" continues drawing viewers to rosemary, chives, greens, artichokes and berries.
