160,000 pounds behind Big D, the Texas bed truck Edison Motors built for two years
The week's most watched upload was not the heavy haul but a short tale about tire marks on the road by the company's yard.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
We put our BDE through it's heaviest loaded highway test to date
Big D has finally done the job it was designed for. Edison Motors, the Canadian maker of diesel-electric trucks founded by Chace Barber, took its BDE out with a Texas bed, the oilfield winch truck built to drag and lift heavy equipment. The chapters walk through the tests: lifting a 400-barrel tank, loading a pump skid, then hooking up a 40-mid lowbed for a pull of about 72 tons. The description calls it the heaviest load the truck has hauled so far, and says it took two years of design and building to get there.
The upload that drew the biggest crowd had no truck test in it at all. "Someone has been laying rubber right in front of our property" sounds like a complaint, and by most viewers' telling it becomes the opposite: the comments are full of people who expected a scolding, or a cut to one of the company's trucks doing its own burnout, and got an invitation to bring the fun onto the lot instead. Several compare the whole thing to Letterkenny.
The rest of the seven uploads were shop-floor work: a week of CMVSS testing, the federal safety standards a vehicle must pass in Canada, a trailer riding on 40 tires, and a pickup on generator power. That last one, barely a day old, is picking up views faster than anything else on the channel, with a clip of a truck loading itself close behind.
Overall it was a slower week than usual, with about 2,000 new subscribers. Among motoring channels of a similar size, Top Dead Center and Dash Cam Owners Australia are running well above their usual pace, and Pushing Pistons brought in the most views of the group by far, while Edison sits in the middle.
