How did an attack on a New Mexico police officer lead investigators to a missing paramedic in South Carolina? The connection was the white BMW left beside the highway, the car Officer Justin Hare had stopped to help.

Dr Insanity's "How Police Captured The Highway Cop Killer" reconstructs the March 2024 killing and the investigation that followed. Hare approached what appeared to be a stranded motorist on Interstate 40. He was shot, and the attacker drove away in his patrol car with him inside. Hare later died at a hospital.

The documentary combines dashcam recordings, bodycam footage and police radio traffic with animated reconstructions. Repeated silent distress signals from Hare's unit help explain the initial search. Officers pursue the stolen cruiser, find it abandoned after a crash, and search separately for their missing colleague.

The investigation then stretches across state lines. Police trace the BMW to missing paramedic Phonesia Machado-Fore. A call to her roommate gives investigators Jaremy Smith's name; recovered footage helps establish his identity. GPS records from the BMW lead South Carolina investigators to the property where they find Machado-Fore's body.

The answer to the title's capture question arrives late in the roughly forty-minute film. At about 33 minutes, a gas station clerk recognizes Smith in Albuquerque and alerts police. Bodycam footage follows the ensuing search through residential backyards. The closing section recounts his arrest, guilty pleas and life sentence.

The upload has drawn nearly a million views since publication. It also contains a paid home-security sponsor segment, separate from the case reconstruction.
