Nigel Farage takes on Andy Burnham in Doncaster, and leads the Daily Express day
Reform UK's campaign speech covers the triple lock, Brexit, energy bills and British industry, and it drew more views than the channel's next three busiest uploads together.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 228,205 views a day, 20 times a normal first day on this channel (11,449).
Nigel Farage DESTROYS Andy Burnham over triple lock and Brexit in fiery speech
Reform UK opened its general election campaign in Doncaster, and the Daily Express posted Nigel Farage's speech there under a title that leaves no room for doubt: "Nigel Farage DESTROYS Andy Burnham over triple lock and Brexit in fiery speech." Eighteen hours later it had passed 200,000 views. A new video on the channel usually ends its whole first day with around 11,000.
The description sums up the speech. Farage calls Britain broken and says Reform is back on the road. He takes in deindustrialization, energy costs, net zero, immigration, government spending and the future of British manufacturing. Then he turns to Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Labour's economic plans and the government's stance on the European Union, and he promises a nationwide campaign until polling day. For Burnham, the target here, it is a long way from the years when he was best known as Mayor of Greater Manchester.
The comments came in about two and a half times faster than on a usual first day. Much of the talk is about the triple lock and Brexit. Viewers also bring up the prisoners released early, which was the subject of another Express upload the same day, and one viewer sends greetings to Doncaster from Glasgow.
It was a political day all around for the channel. A Daily Expresso episode in which host JJ Anisiobi talks immigration with commentator Adam Brooks ran several times past a normal start. So did a clip of Robert Jenrick confronting a shoplifter in Brixton. The Doncaster speech still drew more views than those two and the channel's other fast riser of the day put together.
