LIVE: Betrayal in the Bloodline Murder Trial - Day 6 | NC v. David Prevatte
Court TV's long live streams usually close their first day with under 20,000 views. The sixth day of North Carolina v. David Prevatte passed 140,000 in about seven hours.
The trial, which Court TV has titled "Betrayal in the Bloodline," concerns the death of a five-year-old girl in 2017. According to the channel's description, Prevatte was identified as a suspect in 2018 and arrested in 2022. He faces a charge of first-degree murder and several sex offense charges. The case has been running on the channel all week, and the stream for day seven was already set up before day six had finished its first day.
This session was given over to forensic testimony, and the comment section shows how hard that can be to follow live. Many viewers ask for the DNA findings to be explained simply: which items were tested, whose profiles were found, and how many people were in the house that night. Some newcomers to courtroom streams say plainly that they are lost. In seven hours the stream had drawn almost as many comments as one of these streams usually gets in a full day.
The same day, Court TV also carried the second day of the trial over the 2012 killing of Faith Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old UNC-Chapel Hill student. That stream also ran well above the channel's usual pace, though it drew only about half as many viewers as the Prevatte case.
