Wild cats and ancient sharks expand Cleo Abram's science week
Four new explainers range from animal discoveries to mathematical proofs and the ozone layer's recovery.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Real Story of the New Cat Species
A cat mistaken for a household pet supplied Cleo Abram's most-watched new upload, but sharks had the bigger opening day. Her animal explainers gave this week's science a distinctly toothier cast.
"The Real Story of the New Cat Species" has reached about 1.3 million views. Abram recounts how a cat found in Bolivia eventually came to a sanctuary, where differences from other tiger cats prompted a biologist to investigate its DNA. In the comments, viewers pick up the running internet joke about a "cat distribution system," while others ask for more of the story behind its time in someone's home.
"Sharks Are WAY OLDER Than You Think" uses a timeline to put their extraordinary history in perspective. It drew more views in its first day than the cat story did, and the pair are now attracting almost identical daily audiences.
The other uploads move from natural history to scientific problem-solving. "These 722 Papers Just Broke The Math World" examines papers claiming solutions to longstanding problems, with software checking their logic. "What Really Happened To The Ozone Layer?" traces Susan Solomon's research, the Montreal Protocol and the recovery Abram describes, a particularly direct fit for her optimistic approach to science.
Across the channel, subscribers grew by about 30,000 over seven days, while daily viewing is close to its usual level. Abram drew the largest weekly view total among the nearby science channels, with ElectroBOOM and NileRed also having busy days relative to their usual viewing.
An older journey remains prominent too: "The Sun Is Weirder Than You Think," a sponsored episode supported by AT&T, is the channel's third-busiest video right now. Its route through solar storms, trapped light and the Sun's interior has kept it in circulation beyond release week.
