One Hike to Rule Them All: Chris Dixon's Middle-earth trilogy, extended
All three parts of the walk, set to Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings music, come together with half an hour of footage nobody had seen.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
One Hike to Rule Them All (Extended Edition)
Where do you go after you have walked all of Middle-earth in three installments? Back to the start, apparently, with everything in one place. Chris Dixon posted nothing new this week, and the video keeping his second channel company is "One Hike to Rule Them All (Extended Edition)", a ten-day-old cut that stitches the whole adventure together and adds about thirty minutes of unseen footage.
The title borrows from Tolkien and so does the soundtrack. The chapters are scored with licensed pieces by Howard Shore, the composer behind Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films: "The Road Goes Ever On...", "The Pass of Caradhras" and "Keep It Secret, Keep It Safe". The description opens with a line any fan of the films will hear in a familiar voice: here our journey ends. The credits list a proper crew too, with Dixon directing and a team of five editors, which helps explain how a hiking trip runs past an hour and a half.
It has passed 229,000 views and is moving several times faster than anything else on the channel. Behind it, two older group outings still draw a steady trickle: last year's "YouTuber DRUNK Painting", described as more Vincent Van Boff than Van Gogh, and "YouTubers Gone Fishing", which gave the world the caption "Carp diem".
With no uploads, the channel ran a little below its usual daily pace and the subscriber count held still. Among the football creators of similar size it is one of the quieter channels this week, while angryginge13, AwayDays and Hashtag United are all running well above their normal days. Fitting, perhaps, for the channel whose about text insists it exists outside of football, no really.
