Guilty of proving them wrong: BigXthaPlug's "BURN" puts him on trial, with Ava Max

Jerry Morka's video turns a courtroom verdict into a burning city, and the Dallas rapper's pop-singer guest gives the album rollout its most surprising voice.

BigXthaPlug feat. Ava Max - BURN (Official Music Video)

BigXthaPlug spends the first minute and a half of his new video standing trial. Outside the courthouse in "BigXthaPlug feat. Ava Max - BURN (Official Music Video)", protesters hold signs reading "Let the Truth Be Heard" and "The Media Lied!". Inside, the jury foreperson reads out the counts: selflessness, loyalty, generosity. Guilty on each.

Then the judge delivers the punchline. "Today, you were found guilty for proving them wrong," she tells Mr. X, before sentencing him to 20 years. Only then does the song begin, and the courtroom catches fire around him as he raps.

The guest is the surprise. Ava Max, the dance-pop singer behind "Sweet but Psycho", sings from a rainy rooftop under an umbrella while burning debris falls past her, and the final stretch sends BigXthaPlug shirtless through a rioting street before he slides into the driver's seat of a black car. The description bills the pairing as Texas trap bass set against Max's melodic hooks.

The video drew close to 89,000 views in its first seven hours, a start well beyond his usual. In the comments, Max's vocals get the most attention, and several viewers joke that she seems to be saying yes to every unexpected side project going.

"BURN" follows "LITE" with Belly Gang Kushington as the second guest song ahead of Better Over Time, the album he has set for October 30. Max shares that guest list with GloRilla, Lil Yachty, Leon Thomas and Babyface Ray, though she is the one voice nobody would have guessed from his last record, which leaned toward country.
