Elkie Brooks and Jools Holland strip a Dylan classic to essentials
BBC Music's new Later… performances also include Dexys Midnight Runners, Courtney Barnett and two television firsts.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Elkie Brooks & Jools Holland - Make You Feel My Love | Later… with Jools Holland (2026)
Jools Holland opens at the grand piano; Elkie Brooks enters softly, then gradually gives the song more force. By the sustained note near the end of "Make You Feel My Love," the spare arrangement has made room for a much bigger vocal finish.
Their performance is BBC Music's most watched new upload of the week, with roughly 89,000 views. In the comments, viewers keep returning to the same detail: a voice and a piano, without much else needed. One listener recalls the impact of first hearing Brooks sing "Lilac Wine," connecting this performance to a much longer listening life.
The channel posted 15 uploads, with its new Later… selections bringing established names and introductions onto the same bill. Dexys Midnight Runners revisited Van Morrison's "Jackie Wilson Said" and performed "Once A Man, Twice A Child" from Love. Courtney Barnett brought "One Thing At A Time," while Dublin-founded folk group Madra Salach made their first appearance on the show with "Ribbon Factory." For Mulaa Joans, performing "That Ain't You" marked a television debut altogether.
Just outside the week's new releases, JADE's Mercury Prize performance of "Angel Of My Dreams" is drawing the most daily views among the channel's busiest videos. Fontaines D.C.'s "Mimesis," from their dedicated Later… edition, and Olivia Dean's Mercury performance of "Let Alone The One You Love" are also keeping that earlier batch active.
BBC Music added about 10,000 subscribers over seven days, though its current daily viewing pace is a little below usual. Nearby in the music-media world, KEXP is running above its normal daily pace, while GRM Daily is quieter than usual. BBC Music's week, meanwhile, offers a particularly neat Later… contrast: Brooks thanking Holland after a seasoned performance, alongside artists making their first television introductions.
