Dessa's newborn-son story leaves Asmongold asking, "That's AI?"

A speech-model demo posted on X becomes three minutes of disbelief and laughter, as the voice talks about a baby boy who exists only in its persona.

Why this story? One of the most watched videos since yesterday, with 1,661,184 views.

"That's AI?" Asmongold asks, not half a minute into a demonstration he plainly expected to sound like a machine. The voice talking with a man named Dvir has a newborn son, a birth date for him and a story about getting up when the baby cries. None of it belongs to a real family: the father, the son and the night feeds are all part of Dessa, an AI voice persona.

The clip on Asmongold Clips, the channel Daily Dose of Asmongold runs for shorter cuts from his streams, is built on a post on X by Ragavan Thurairatnam. He presents Dessa as the first model you can have a realistic conversation with that was trained entirely on speech. It listens and talks at the same time, and he says it can run on consumer graphics cards. Captions mark which voice is "HUMAN" and which is "DESSA", and the persona speaks in African American Vernacular English.

Asmongold spends the demo swinging between doubt and delight. He pictures voices like this in video games, wonders aloud what programming one would take, and is laughing hard by the time the crying-baby story arrives. "Guys, this is crazy," he says as it ends, then scrolls through the replies already piling up under the post.

The clip has drawn close to 1.7 million views in its first 17 hours. It is also a change of subject for a channel that spent the previous days reacting to podcast drama. Under it, viewers joke that the AI already grumbles about work like everyone else, and one turns the premise around entirely: it is the human who sounds artificial.
