PM's Offer To One Nation MP Stirs Anger | 10 News
An extra staff member would have been welcome. The Prime Minister's offer was not: One Nation MP David Farley told 10 News he had not requested it and would not accept it.
Political editor Ashleigh Raper holds up a copy of Anthony Albanese's letter in the report, which puts a parliamentary staffing dispute at the center of a political disagreement. Pauline Hanson says she has spent nearly a year seeking additional help without receiving a response, only for the Prime Minister to approach one of her MPs directly.
"I've been practically screaming, begging for this for nearly a year and I get no response, no letter," Hanson says. She accuses Albanese of going behind her back and trying to divide One Nation.
Farley's position gives the offer particular significance. He is One Nation's first elected member of the House of Representatives, representing Farrer in regional New South Wales. Raper also points to the geographical scale of his electorate as context for his need for staff.
The Short drew roughly 47,000 views in 21 hours, far beyond 10 News's usual first-day audience for that format. In a follow-up report, the broadcaster says the federal government denies trying to poach Farley.
