For Xiaoma and Wareka, Hong Kong was the alternate plan

A denied U.S. visa redirected a return invitation into a trip spanning Victoria Peak, Disneyland and conversations with local elders.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

How did an invitation to New York become a Hong Kong adventure? Xiaoma says he wanted to return the hospitality of Wareka, the guide he had stayed in touch with after visiting a Waorani village in Ecuador's Amazon. After a year helping with a U.S. visa application that was denied, he found another destination they could visit together.

That trip, "I Took an Amazon Tribesman to the World's Most Futuristic City," is the busiest of Xiaoma's currently active uploads, approaching seven million views. The video is sponsored. Its itinerary mixes skyline sightseeing and roller coasters with less monumental discoveries: a hotel minibar, a buffet and a water fountain. There is also time for a cultural exchange with Hong Kong elders, making this more than a tour of impressive buildings.

Xiaoma posted nothing new this week, but the channel added roughly 2.8 million views. Daily viewing is running above its usual level, while the subscriber count stayed unchanged. Among nearby educational channels, 3Blue1Brown had a growing week; RealLifeLore and Tom Scott also had unchanged subscriber counts.

The Hong Kong visit now draws substantially more daily viewing than the multilingual wedding featured in our earlier note. Michelle and William's ceremony remains active, though, alongside "Teacher Calls on Quiet Student…He Replies in Fluent Latin." That school visit pairs Xiaoma with ScorpioMartianus at Westtown School in Pennsylvania, taking his familiar language-surprise format somewhere quite different from a restaurant counter.
