Rubio in Greece, algorithms at home: WSJ Opinion's varied week

Fifteen uploads ranged from Senate debate analysis to Mary Julia Koch's argument for leaving room for unexpected discoveries.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

France drew the biggest audience. Across Wall Street Journal Opinion's fifteen-upload week, "France's Bonfire of Inanities" reached about 152,000 views and remained the channel's most active video by daily views. Its editorial argument connects school-funding protests with a welfare state the channel says France can no longer afford.

That subject also received the podcast treatment. In "France's Financial Woes Have Led to Protests and Strikes," Joe Sternberg discusses the country's financial pressures, while another Potomac Watch upload pairs France's unrest with Marco Rubio's speech in Greece defending Western civilization. A separate video with the same Rubio title asks whether the address could mark the beginning of a presidential campaign. That's the panel's question, not an announcement from Rubio.

Closer to home, "Senate Candidates Debate: Medicare for All, Tariffs, Iran and Social Security" examines debates in Michigan, Maine and Iowa. It drew the second-largest audience among the week's listed uploads, though a considerably smaller one than the France commentary.

The channel added about a thousand subscribers over seven days. Its weekly view gain sat in the middle of its nearby news-channel group: Guardian Australia had a busier week, while Toronto Star and Private Eye Magazine had smaller gains.

One fresh change of subject is already among the channel's most active videos: "Algorithms Are Killing the Thrill of Discovery / Free Ex." Mary Julia Koch's commentary asks what gets lost when technology makes life too perfectly tailored, arguing that convenience can squeeze out randomness and joy. After a week of public-policy disputes, it offers a question about the recommendations arriving on your own screen.
