A peeled screen protector turns GameStop's $4 phone offer into $373

Wire & Plug's trade-in test against an ecoATM kiosk has no single winner, and the first quote is what viewers keep talking about.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 991,956 views a day, 18 times a normal first day on this channel (55,672).

GameStop vs. ecoATM: Who Pays More for My Phones? 💰📱GameStop vs. ecoATM: Who Pays More for My Phones? 💰📱

Wire & Plug's owner runs a phone repair business in San Diego, so peeling off a worn screen protector is routine work. At a GameStop counter, it turned out to be worth a few hundred dollars. An employee looking over an iPhone 17 Pro saw heavy scratches and passed on an offer of about four bucks. With the protector removed, the cash quote became $373.

That moment sits in the middle of a simple experiment: three phones, two places that buy them, and the question "Who pays more, GameStop or ecoATM?" Neither wins every round. GameStop pays more for an older Samsung Galaxy Note 10+, while the kiosk offers a little more for the iPhone 17 Pro. A repaired iPhone 14 Pro that will not hold a charge gets turned away at GameStop, but the machine still prices it as a non-working phone.

Testing businesses from the customer's side of the counter is familiar territory here. The channel's most watched regular video is "Will These Repair Shops Try to Scam Me?"

This Short came close to a million views in its first 20 hours, and its comments arrived almost ten times faster than on a usual first day. Most return to that $4 quote. Some viewers say they never knew GameStop bought phones at all, and a few tease the creator for leaving with something extra: a pack of Pokémon cards the employee recommended.

Back at the workbench, the pack gets opened on camera. Out comes a Primeape.
