Total Wipeout UK reaches Season 2, and the Big Balls get a gymnastics routine

Eight full episodes went up in seven days as the Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram show worked through its first series, from a naked waiter to a Big Balls hall of shame.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Season 2 has begun. The official Wipeout channel spent the week posting the first series of Total Wipeout UK, one full episode a day, and closed it by opening the next: "Planning a Gymnastics Routine For the Big Balls" is the Season 2 premiere, and a day in, it is the episode drawing viewers fastest.

The show itself needs little introduction for anyone who watched Saturday-night BBC One in the late 2000s. Richard Hammond, then of Top Gear, delivered the jokes from a studio, while Amanda Byram stood out on the course in Argentina, watching contestants bounce off the famous Big Red Balls and into the mud below. The channel's titles promise exactly that kind of comedy: a run that "falls apart without warning," a naked waiter racing for the £10,000 prize, a teenage gymnast who "broke the record... then this happened," and an episode billed as "The Most Exhausted, Dramatic Obstacle Course Crawl."

The Big Balls clearly sell. Episode 9, "The Big Balls Hall of Shame," picked up faster than the earlier episodes of the week, and the new Season 2 opener, built around a gymnastics plan for the same obstacle, has the quickest start of all. Each episode found an audience in the low thousands, and the channel as a whole ran a little above its usual daily pace, adding about a thousand subscribers.

Among the British talent and reality channels nearest its size, the big weeks belonged to Dancer's Got Talent and Emmerdale, while Wipeout kept to a quieter rhythm of its own.
