Stick-Tac-Toe, and a disputed bottom-left square for We Got Ice
A tic-tac-toe game posted on Sunday had a modest first day, then picked up speed, and its comment section is still arguing over whether one throw landed in.
Why this story? The video is running at 227,561 views a day, 30 times its usual pace (7,640).
Stick-Tac-Toe
We Got Ice describes itself as "the most serious weekly baseball content you could even begin to imagine," and the joke in that line runs through a week of backyard games. "Stick-Tac-Toe" is the one that caught a second wind. It went up on Sunday to a modest first day. Since then it has been gathering views about thirty times faster than its usual pace, and it is closing in on 270,000.
The game takes tic-tac-toe off the paper. Going by the comments, squares are claimed with throws rather than pencil marks, and the talk centers on one of them. Several viewers think Jack's throw into the bottom-left square missed. One cries shenanigans, and another asks for a closed grid and a no-touching line next time. The most liked comment jokingly sends Zo off to tic-tac-toe school after the loss. One viewer goes further and suspects Zo of passing up an obvious block on purpose.
That viewer writes about "both" games, and there were two. A day before this one, the channel posted "Tic-Tac-Toe But The Sport Keeps Changing," which has passed 700,000 views. Maybe some of that crowd came looking for the rematch?
The newest upload, "First Ball To Hit The Floor Wins (best of 3)," started even faster. It passed a quarter of a million views in its first seven hours, far beyond a usual opening day here. Meanwhile, "Balloon Popping Race!" from late September crossed a million.
The baseball has not gone anywhere. Between the games came "Tricking a Hitter with 6 Unfair Pitches," whose description says its maker has never felt more like a mad scientist.
