Spike's parenting duties fill Warner Bros. Classics' cartoon hour
Three new uploads pair Spike and Tyke with Bugs Bunny's pals and HAL's silent surveillance in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Tom and Jerry | Mega Compilation | Vol. 43 | Spike the Bulldog | Warner Classics
Building a doghouse, teaching your pup and getting the barbecue going should be straightforward enough. Not with Tom and Jerry nearby. Warner Bros. Classics' most-watched new upload gives Spike and Tyke an hour of cartoons in which ordinary bulldog business keeps colliding with the cat-and-mouse chase.
The compilation has reached roughly 900,000 views. Its selection includes The Dog House, where construction suffers from Tom's pursuit of Jerry, and That's My Pup!, which makes Tom part of Spike's lesson in chasing cats. In The Truce Hurts, even a peace agreement between the three animals has trouble surviving the arrival of a steak.
The week's other releases offer two very different kinds of intelligence. A Bugs Bunny and pals compilation includes Wile E. Coyote trusting a supercomputer to catch Bugs in To Hare Is Human. Meanwhile, "2001: A Space Odyssey | HAL Reads Lips | Warner Classics" revisits Stanley Kubrick's much less reassuring computer: Dave Bowman and Frank Poole try to discuss HAL privately, unaware that it can read their lips. Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood play the astronauts, with Douglas Rain supplying HAL's voice.
Older cartoons account for the strongest momentum. The Quackers and bird-friends compilation is approaching ten million views and drawing the most daily viewing, followed by the channel's Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner collection. Spike's new hour sits behind those two in daily views.
Across the channel, viewing is close to its usual daily level, while subscribers increased over the week. Among nearby studio channels, Amazon MGM Studios had a particularly busy week; Warner Bros. Classics also drew a substantial weekly audience, with its enduring cartoon double acts doing much of the work.
