VICE News gives Snyder's power warning a shorter form

Three new uploads return to U.S. power and Trump, while the full Shane Smith conversation approaches 800,000 views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

What does Timothy Snyder mean by "superpower suicide"? VICE News's most-watched new upload gives his answer in less than a minute: he argues that the United States is undermining both its immediate advantages and the institutions that sustain its power over generations.

In "The U.S. Is Committing Superpower Suicide," Snyder points to alliances, finances and military capability before turning to education, research and immigration. Archival footage of Donald Trump hugging an American flag accompanies the opening. The diagnosis is Snyder's, and the short clip concentrates on his argument about the extraordinary speed of the damage he describes.

That upload drew about 16,000 views, the largest audience among the channel's three releases this week. "Trump's Turn to Russia 🇷🇺" and "Trump Is Playing a Dangerous Game" arrived on the same day, keeping the upload slate focused on Trump and international power.

The longer Snyder interview with Shane Smith, published before this week's releases, remains the channel's most active video right now. Beyond its opening argument, the conversation ranges across drones, nuclear proliferation, propaganda, affordability and artificial intelligence.

Across the channel, daily views are running at more than twice the usual pace, while the subscriber count stayed unchanged over the week. VICE News's weekly viewing was close to Vox's; MS NOW had a much larger week. For VICE News, the sustained draw remains the full Snyder conversation, not just its newly posted excerpts.
