Tyler Vitelli cracks a 'secret code', and his viewers check the sum

The comedian's short about an emergency number drew comments twelve times faster than usual, many of them redoing his arithmetic.

Why this story? The video drew 14,442 comments in its first day, 12 times a normal first day on this channel (1,206).

"How did I figure this out" is Tyler Vitelli's newest short, billed in its description as the story of how he found "an insane secret code" and promising that the ending is actually funny. Judging by the comment section, the code links 911 to "12", the street slang for police, and the punchline rests on a sum that does not quite work.

That sum is what everyone wants to talk about. Short after short of replies sets it out with ticks and crosses: 9 plus 1 plus 1 makes 11, not 12. Some admit they nodded along until they did the math themselves. Others turn it into brain-cell jokes, a mock rule about confusing your enemies by confusing yourself first, or a reversal in which Tyler is the one who failed his math teacher. A few bring geography into it, noting that in Australia the number to call is 000.

The views on its first day, close to four million, were about normal for a channel of 9.18 million subscribers. The talk was not: more than 14,000 comments in 24 hours, where his shorts usually draw about 1,200. It went up the day before a busy Thursday on which "Fork + Spoon = 🤔", another invented-shortcut joke, passed two million views.
