Keith Whitley, Midland and songs to drink to: This Wild Life hints at a country turn
Three short teasers went up, one of them promising 'upcoming music we have brewing,' and the two country-flavored ones went up on the same day.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
If you like sad country songs you can drink to…
Among the singer-songwriter channels nearest its size, This Wild Life sat comfortably in the middle for views gained over the seven days, fourth of nine. The Hound + The Fox and Stan Walker had the busier weeks, but the acoustic duo's own week holds the more curious detail.
That detail is in the titles. Kevin Jordan and Anthony Del Grosso, the Long Beach pair who came up in the pop-punk world and signed to Epitaph Records, posted three short clips, and two of them speak in a country accent. "If you like sad country songs you can drink to…" and "If Keith Whitley and Midland are in your playlist, this is for you…" went up on the same day, each one addressed to a listener with a very particular record shelf. Whitley was the neotraditional voice of the late 1980s; Midland are the Texas trio who brought that barroom sound back a few decades later. Is the duo aiming its next songs at the same jukebox?
The third clip, posted two days earlier, says only that the band is "excited for all the upcoming music we have brewing," which reads like a drumroll for the other two. The sad-songs teaser drew the most views of the three, roughly twice its Keith Whitley companion.
Around them the channel kept its usual rhythm, a little above its normal daily pace, about 100,000 views over the week, with the subscriber count holding steady.
