It did not fade. "Killer Klown & Merman Slaughter Scene | The Cabin in the Woods" came to life on its third day, and on its fourth it kept moving at roughly two dozen times its normal rate. It has now passed 80,000 views.
The Midnight Horror Society is a clips channel built on horror, slasher and thriller scenes. On a usual day its whole library shares a steady stream of views. Right now this one scene is pulling in close to half of that stream by itself.
The clip comes from the film's famous finale. Dana and Marty, played by Kristin Connolly and Fran Kranz, hit the button that frees every monster in the underground facility, and the place turns into what the description calls a gloriously absurd massacre. The Cabin in the Woods came out in 2012, directed by Drew Goddard from a script he wrote with Joss Whedon. Earlier in the film, a technician keeps grumbling that he has never seen the merman, and this is the sequence where it finally shows up.
