Plants once grew inside this room. Now Schoolhouse Homestead is putting up walls and restoring old doors, making part of its Indiana schoolhouse basement somewhere family and friends can stay.

The new upload, "5 Years Later, the Schoolhouse Basement Is Finally Changing," follows construction beginning in a space the owners had largely avoided. It has passed 600,000 views, alongside a day when viewing across the channel reached more than eight times its usual pace.

This isn't a makeover that starts with an ordinary spare bedroom. Built in 1914, the school later housed livestock before becoming a family home. Its present owners bought it in 2021 with a commitment to preserve as much as possible, while tackling a new roof, foundation waterproofing and damaged floor joists. The basement is another piece of that long conversion from school to home.

Marissa and her crew arrive to begin the guest quarters, with new framing giving the plans a physical shape. Salvaged school doors and vintage transoms keep the building's former life in the picture. For the host, that also means returning to stripping and refinishing doors, a task she says she had sworn off.

There's a playful contrast upstairs: while the basement becomes more welcoming, the front of the schoolhouse gets giant teeth, creepy eyes and the beginnings of an enormous spider, using a Wicked Makers tutorial.
