Christian McCaffrey is getting less work, and Rich Eisen sees that as a reason to admire the 49ers' planning rather than question it. San Francisco keeps winning without asking its star running back to carry quite so much of the offense. Fantasy managers have a different set of priorities.
That tension has brought The Rich Eisen Show roughly 80,000 views in seven hours, putting the segment on pace for a first-day audience more than seven times its usual start. The comment section has already grown far beyond a typical full first day, too.
Eisen begins with San Francisco's undefeated start and the divisional road wins that have strengthened its position. Then a graphic gives his argument its clearest illustration: McCaffrey's touches per game are down by a third compared with last season.
"The Niners are not putting it all on Christian McCaffrey's shoulders and legs and hands," Eisen says. For him, preserving McCaffrey while continuing to win is the point. The punchier version follows: "Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, do not care about your fantasy team."
Viewers are discussing Shanahan's ability to plug replacements into the lineup, Brock Purdy's importance and what a rested McCaffrey could mean for the postseason. Some also caution that tougher opponents remain on the schedule.
The show's Ian Rapoport discussion about Arizona moving on from Marvin Harrison Jr. and its broader Overreaction Tuesday episode are also starting unusually fast. But this segment brings the fantasy dilemma right into the studio: Brockman explains how McCaffrey's lighter workload is affecting his own team's scores.
