Five-gallon mayonnaise buckets and a mushroom hunt for Chef Thomson

The culinary student who calls himself a glorified lunch lady posted four videos, and the one about prying open a kitchen tub has passed three million views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Chef Thomson's channel has gone past 1.38 billion lifetime views, and it got there on the back of a plastic lid. "The pain of opening mayonnaise buckets at work 😔" is exactly the struggle it promises: a cook, a sealed five-gallon tub and a multitool. Five days on, it has passed three million views.

The comments read like a trade union meeting. Deli and bakery workers say they have cut their hands on those tubs more times than they can count. Painters and builders point out that this is simply what every plastic bucket looks like, and several people recommend the cheap opener sold in hardware store paint aisles. A surprising number admit they spent the whole clip waiting for the multitool to drop into the mayo.

The second video of the week went outdoors. "Foraging for wild mushrooms with a professional chef 🍄‍🟫" is gaining views almost as quickly as the bucket clip, and it fits the life his channel describes: a culinary student at NBCC in New Brunswick, class of 2027. A tomato-slicing trick he says he was taught, and a short titled "Every Chef's worst nightmare…", followed on October 1. Meanwhile "Going fishing in culinary school 🎣", two weeks old, is still drawing a steady crowd.

Together those videos pushed the channel to about three times its usual daily views, and it added 10,000 subscribers over the seven days. Among cooking channels of his size, only Shef_Phoenix, whose own week was even bigger, gained more views. COOKING WITH SHEREEN and lifeofcian are also running above their usual pace, while Mini Cakes is a little quieter than normal.
