The matchup comes with history. This was the opening game of the National League Wild Card Series, and it pairs two National League East neighbors who have met in October before. The Phillies knocked the Braves out of the Division Series in both 2022 and 2023, so a playoff meeting between these clubs is familiar ground for both fan bases.

The quick start also runs against the mood elsewhere in baseball. MLB's own channel was running well below its usual daily pace.
