Superbad, Trollhunters and Homecoming share one friendship in monium's Short

Six screen pairings flash by in about seven seconds, and the cartoon with a mugshot is the one viewers keep naming.

Why this story? One of the most watched videos since yesterday, with 6,092,212 views.

Best type of duos in fiction 🙏

Six duos, one blueprint. The newest Short on monium, a clips and meme-edit channel, cuts through screen friendships built the same way: one boy slimmer and usually the worrier, his friend rounder and cheerfully along for the ride. The caption overhead asks why these pairs turn up in every universe.

The cuts come fast. DJ and Chowder stand outside Monster House, Greg and Rowley share a landline in Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Jonah Hill and Michael Cera's Superbad pair take a school staircase. Peter Parker and Ned Leeds sit at a Homecoming cafeteria table, and ParaNorman's Norman and Neil end it on a living room rug. In between comes Trollhunters, with Jim and Toby in an animated police lineup and Jim's placard reading "James Lake."

That Netflix series is what the comment section keeps returning to. Viewers did not expect to see it beside the movies, and they add their own rule for the trope: the tall one ages from stress while the other is just happy to be there. One joke has stuck: with a little common sense between them, these stories would run about eight minutes.

The Short drew about six million views since yesterday, and the comments arrived roughly four times faster than on the channel's usual first day.
