Israeli interviewee calls for Gaza displacement and killing
Middle East Eye's upload of a Guardian street interview draws more than 360,000 views before its first full day.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 363,850 views a day, 19 times a normal first day on this channel (19,570).
Young Israeli woman calls for the displacement of all Palestinians in the Gaza Strip or death
"In that scenario, where would the Palestinians go?" the interviewer asks. The unnamed woman suggests other Arab countries, then adds: "Or we'll kill them."
The exchange appears in a Guardian street interview from Tel Aviv, posted by Middle East Eye. The channel describes it as having been filmed at an event ahead of Israel's elections.
The woman begins by advocating carpet bombing Gaza and saying no living soul should remain there. She then supports Israeli settlement and annexation of the territory. When the interviewer says viewers outside Israel might be shocked, she invokes a religious justification for taking the land.
Asked about the destination for displaced Palestinians, she excludes Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, claiming those countries belong to Israel, before threatening killing as the alternative.
The Short has drawn an audience far above Middle East Eye's usual first-day reach. Its comment section is also nearly fifty times busier than the channel's ordinary first day for Shorts. The central exchange is the interviewer's direct question about what her proposed annexation would mean for the Palestinians living there.
The smaller of the two Palestinian territories, bordered by Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. Its largest city is Gaza City.
