Buffalo-tail soup makes MeatEater's Africa bonus worth unpacking
Steven Rinella's Season 13 extras travel from Lake Sagara to biltong-making and conversations with anti-poaching rangers.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Africa Bonus: Unseen Moments
A safari produces more stories than three episodes can hold. MeatEater's answer is "Africa Bonus: Unseen Moments," a collection of material left outside Steven Rinella's Season 13 Africa episodes, and the biggest new draw of its two-upload week.
The extras have a menu of their own: roan backstrap turned into biltong with coriander and vinegar, Cape buffalo tail soup cooked over coals, and meat dried for villages. A boat ride on Lake Sagara opens the journey, with fishery protection and the reserve's anti-poaching team also getting time. This is a sponsored episode, with the emphasis extending beyond the hunt to food and the work of looking after the reserve.
At roughly 344,000 views, it has drawn more than twice the audience of the week's other release. Viewers ask for more Africa stories, single out Morgan for a return appearance and discuss the buffalo-tail soup alongside their own experiences cooking oxtail. One says the bonus answered questions left over from the Tanzania episodes.
The other new upload swaps open coals in Africa for subzero Minnesota: "Winter Grouse Hunting by Dog Sled | With Tony Peterson." Mushers Sean McCarty and Paige May take Tony and his black lab, Sadie, deep into Superior National Forest, then leave them for three days of winter camping and grouse hunting. That episode is sponsored too.
MeatEater added about 10,000 subscribers, while daily viewing sat slightly below its usual level. Among nearby outdoor channels, Nate Petroski had a particularly large viewing week and Kamoka Pearl saw stronger subscriber growth. MeatEater's freshest Africa installment carries its strongest daily momentum, followed by the Nebraska whitetail hunt with Rinella, Peterson and Pat Hoffman, now approaching a million views.

@jeremywanner4526See it on YouTubeOxtails are available in the US, they used to be very cheap to buy. But once people caught on to how good they are suddenly the price went up very very much. I love them but just can't afford to buy them any longer. That soup looked amazing ! ❤️
