That is the elaborate setup behind "I Made My Friend A Celebrity In Asia... Without Him Knowing", which has passed two million views. Posted in September, the video is gaining views at nearly eight times its usual daily pace.

Fosh arranges the campaign before Jonny's holiday in Vietnam, then surprises his friend in the street. A photograph taken in London has become an advertising presence on the other side of the world. The banana, it turns out, was not an arbitrary prop.

The comments add a particularly good detail to this prank: several viewers say they encountered the adverts themselves. One recalls seeing them on the journey to school and visiting the website out of curiosity; another remembers wondering why Jonny seemed to be everywhere. Those are viewers' accounts, but they give the campaign a life beyond Fosh's reveal.

For a creator whose most watched regular upload involves convincing tourists they landed at the wrong airport, this is another joke built to reach people who never asked to be in on it.
