Brian opens sheds stocked with communications equipment, medical supplies, water tanks, fuel and freeze-dried food. But the experienced prepper's explanation is less dramatic than the inventory: he is preparing for disruptions to ordinary life.

"People do lose their jobs. People do get snowed in. We do have bad storms..." he tells LBC.

The broadcaster's report follows the government's "Be Ready" campaign, which, according to LBC, encourages households to keep three days' worth of supplies for emergencies such as extreme weather or cyber-attacks affecting critical infrastructure. The advice includes non-perishable food, bottled water, blankets and a radio.

Rather than staying with the official checklist, LBC visits people who were preparing long before the campaign. In Lancashire, Mike demonstrates a portable toolbox he calls his "bunker system", containing torches, tools, survival guides and other equipment. His concerns include power outages and the consequences of card machines failing.

The report also moves beyond individual stockpiles. At an outdoor training camp run by the prepper and mutual-aid network Silent Legion, participants practise survival skills, incident coordination and communications. A member demonstrates a system for seeing who has checked in and out; a spokesperson identifies cyber incidents and floods as practical situations the group prepares for.

The video drew about 175,000 views since yesterday. It closes with LBC reporting increased purchases of canned food and bottled water, after showing how its interviewees combine stored supplies with equipment, training and ways to contact one another.
