"Taekwondo has zero power…": Joel Iyalla answers the old jibe
The three-time British champion's newest short arrived after a week of sketches about coaches, beginners and a work bestie who met a spin kick.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
“Taekwondo has zero power…”
Seven uploads, one recurring target: the dojo. Joel Iyalla, whose about page calls him a three-time British champion, spends most of his channel turning martial arts life into short sketches, and this week ran from the coach who always catches him out to a list of phrases for calming that coach down.
The biggest of them took the kicks out of the gym. "POV: You meet her “work bestie”" passed 190,000 views in its first week, and its comment section is mostly about technique. The most liked replies praise a clean spin kick and a hook kick that, by one viewer's account, exploded. Others argue about whether a straight man can really be one of the girls at work, and a few remind everyone that kicking a colleague would end in court, not in a punchline.
The newest short may have the sharpest premise for a taekwondo man. "“Taekwondo has zero power…”" takes on the oldest dig at the sport, and twelve hours in it was already picking up views faster than anything else on the channel. A nine-day-old sparring sketch, "Sparring the new guy (expectation vs reality)", is still close behind, near 375,000 views.
Overall the channel ran slower than usual, adding about two million views and a thousand subscribers. Among comedy sketch channels of a similar size, EthanThe Artist and Sam Cornforth are having the big weeks, while Joel sits second by subscribers and in the middle by views gained.
